“No Real Recovery”
Texas Gov. For State's Sovereignty
Texas Governor Rick Perry is supporting legislation that strengthens the state's rights under the 10th Amendment.
Perry said the federal government is becoming too oppressive and is interfering in the lives of citizens in his state.
The 10th Amendment states that any powers not granted to the federal government under the Constitution are reserved to the states or the people. Perry believes this amendment needs to be brought to the forefront of people's minds as the federal government attempts to overstep their boundries.
Texas isn't the first state to take these steps. Several other states have also brought up the 10th amendment as a defense for the federal government trying to take too much power.
It's important for citizens to realize when the federal government stops doing their job, and instead starts to take as much power as they can. The U.S. government isn't here to rule over us with an iron fist, there are reasons why we have states and a split power structure.
If the federal government starts taking whatever powers it wants to, then we can only assume some of the liberties the federal government takes will be things we disagree with. Right now, one of the problems Texas is having has to to do with strings attached to federal money reserved for the states.
As the federal government attempts to give back some of the money they've taken in taxes, they're making sure to attach requirements for the funds. If the federal government is allowed to attach strings to funds, they are effectively taking control of any state who accepts the money.
This puts states in a predicament: they need more money, but don't want to be controlled by the federal government. The only thing to do is establish sovereignty and hope the feds back off.
